Last Saturday and Sunday, there was an enchanting scenery on the waterfront in Reggio Calabria was inspired by the colors and energy of an event that has steadily taken shape over the last three years. The crossing of the Strait is now called kiting Continent-Island Race, a flight Ecological and silent, moved only by the wind from the mainland to the island.

The growth of this sport in town is mainly due to the sailing club NewKiteZone, event organizer, in a few years has made Punta Pellaro (headquarters) and Reggio the goal of a new kiteboarding tourism which contributes significantly to the regeneration of area, that Pellarese famous because most threatened by urban and environmental degradation.

The city councilor for tourism and entertainment and Prof. Enzo Sidari Navy League Reggio Calabria for the South, reward the first three kiters to have taken the company this year. Among the various categories of time stands Reggio Fabio Zema, winner of the previous edition, only 14 seconds from Richard Noble, the winner of Race Crossing, national caliber athlete Sicilian, followed in third place by Marco Cristofanelli.

Two Sicilian, first runner-up Maria Piscopo and Annavaleria Papale, preceding the roman Valeria Strappaveccia, witnessing a tremendous growth of practitioners of this sport seemingly “extreme”.

This edition has therefore been able to attract and involve athletes and fans from all over Italy and beyond, it was announced the winning with the Association Kiters Argentines who have already indicated their intention to send a delegation of athletes for next year 2011.

The event was excellent for everyone on a national and international basis which managed to bring prestige and visibility to Reggio.
